Why One-on-One Yoga?
Oftentimes I will teach a class or go to a class where it seems the students have a wide-variety of experience. While this is ok, it’s not ideal for keeping beginner students safe and it makes it more difficult to help advanced students into the full expression of more advanced poses.
Basically, the experience is often spread thin as teachers sacrifice to teach to all levels.
This is where it can be challenging for you as a student. You want to fully experience the poses in a way that feels great for you and yet still keep it safe for your body. You may even want more “hands-on” facilitation of the poses to help you go deeper in the poses or to help you experience slight adjustments that can make a world of difference in how you feel in the pose.
I remember starting yoga and feeling so thankful that I had chosen to go to a class that was small and intimate. There may have been 4 other students in the room and the teacher was able to make sure I wasn’t going to injure myself in my first-ever shoulder stand.
Later, when I underwent training to be a yoga instructor, I realized just how important alignment can be, especially when it comes to head and neck. Injuries from yoga are all too common and can be easily prevented with the right alignment cues.
Keep in mind that while the teacher does her best to keep everyone in safe alignment sometimes it just isn’t possible… she can’t have her eye on everyone at the same time to ensure optimal alignment and posture. This means that you may be practicing in a way that you think is safe but really is leading to a back or joint injury.
Through one-on-one instructions you will learn proper alignment to keep yourself safe while you experience the fullest, most “pranafied” expression of the pose.
In just a few sessions of therapeutic personalized yoga sessions clients often feel much more confident to start or return safely to group classes.
Armed with an internal compass for alignment and knowing how healthy poses should feel in their body, students are amazed at the difference having one-on-one attention can make to their practice.
